As part of the programme of contact with the ministers in charge of fisheries of the Member States of the CSRP, the Permanent Secretary of the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (SRFC) Doctor Khallahi Brahim, met the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of Guinea-Bissau,Mr Dionísio do Reino Pereira.

The Permanent Secretary presented on  the SRFC and the outline of its action and the vision it intends to implement during its mandate. Efforts to combat illegal unreported and unregulated fishing will be continued and be strengthened with the support of technical and financial partners.
In order to finance certain activities, the SRFC undertakes to increase contacts with technical and financial partners. Positive reactions are on the horizon.

The Minister Dionísio Pereira reiterated the commitment of Guinea-Bissau to accompany the SRFC in its quest to find  solutions and he promised to make every effort to help the SRFC, with the emphasis on the fight against IUU fishing.

He also stressed the importance for SRFC to function as a strong bloc of countries with common interests, including sustainable development of fisheries in their states.

As part of this visit, the Permanent Secretary met with officials of the fisheries sector of Guinea-Bissau: the Secretary General of the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, the Director of Industrial Fisheries, the Director of Control and Surveillance (FISCAP) and the Director of the Research Institute (INIPO).

On the occasion of the celebration of World Fisheries Day (21 November), the PS was invited by His Excellency the Minister of Fisheries to accompany a government mission to Cacine. This mission was chaired by the Prime Minister also included the Minister of Fisheries as well as the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Urban Planning and representatives of central administration. The Prime Minister inaugurated the Cacine Fishing Centre, built with funding from the Government of Japan
