As part of the programme of contact with the ministers in charge of fisheries of the member countries of the CSRP, the Permanent Secretary Dr Khallahi Brahim of the Sub-Regional Commission on Fisheries (CSRP), after his appointment, visited Cabo Verde, (Santiago and São Vicente) from 09 to 12 July 2023.

On the island of São Vicente, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Khallahi Brahim, met with the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Barbosa Vicente, in charge of the fisheries sector.

After greetings, the Permanent Secretary presented the main actions planned for the year 2023 and also counts on the support of Cabo Verde, concerning the strengthening of cooperation between the Member States of the CSRP.

Minister Abraão reiterated Cabo Verde’s commitment to finding solutions and promised to do everything possible to help the CSRP with a focus on combating IUU fishing.

He also stressed the importance for the CSRP to function as a strong bloc of countries with common interests, including the sustainable development of fisheries in their states.

As part of this visit, the Permanent Secretary met with officials of the Cabo Verde fisheries sector, including the National Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture (DNPA), the Inspector General of Fisheries, the Administrator of the School of the Sea (EMAR), the Commander of the Coast Guard and a private infrastructure that produces shrimp in aquaculture, using seawater.

In the town of Praia, the Permanent Secretary met with a member of the Coordination Committee and visited the Maritime Surveillance Operations Centre (COSMAR).

Also in Praia, he was received by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Rear-Admiral António Duarte Monteiro, who assured that the Coast Guard and the authorities that depend on it will continue the efforts of collaboration with CSRP
