The first Meeting of the Working Group on the IT platform for data sharing and information exchange on small pelagics in the CSRP space, was held in Banjul, The Gambia, from 13 to 17 November 2021

Opening

Mr. Mouhamadou Makhtar Seck, Head of Financial and Accounting Services of the CSRP, representing Mr. Malal Sané, Permanent Secretary of the CSRP prevented, on behalf of the latter, welcomed all the participants in the Working Group on small pelagics set up within the framework of the OAP8 supported by the MAVA Foundation.

He urged them to take up the challenge of the sustainable protection of small pelagics and critical sites in the sub-region by translating this desire into action by setting up tools contributing to better management of these threatened stocks.

Mrs. Anna Mbenga Cham, Director of Fisheries of the Republic of The Gambia, opened the work of the First Meeting of the Working Group on the IT platform for data sharing and information exchange on small pelagics in the CSRP space. She did not fail to salute the commitment of the various partners involved in the OAP8 and the sustained support of the MAVA Foundation for the partners of the AGD-Pelagics project and the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission which has the responsible for driving it.

Procedure

The Workshop had 4 objectives broken down as follows: (i) Validation of the Terms of Reference of the Working Group; (ii) Identification of the types of data to be shared and exchanged; (iii) the Data Use Charter; (iv) Definition of the working methods of the Working Group.

At the end of the presentations made by the Coordinator of the AGD-Pelagics project on the "Reminder of the ToR of the platform and the objectives of the Meeting" and by the various managers in charge of the databases on small pelagics in the different countries stakeholders of the project, a summary of the work was made and recommendations formulated.
